The folks at Poetry and Folk in the Environment (pFITE) have featured my entry for their 2024 initiative on their website. My song is “Monkton Coke,” about the environmental and health problems caused by a coke works in Hebburn. After a community organizing effort led by homemaker Jennie Shearan — who came to be known as “Battling Jennie” — the polluting coke works was closed and the ground cleaned up. It’s an example of what can be accomplished when people organize to solve a problem. I’d be very appreciative if you checked out the video and gave it a “like.” Thanks!

While I was visiting pFITE’s offices in Blakeney on the Norfolk coast, they talked me into recording some songs for their Thursday Eco Artists (TEA) series. In addition to “Monkton Coke,” I performed “Las Luces de Eagle Pass” and “Smoky Old Town.” I thought they did a fine job filming it, and I’m most appreciative. Please check it out!
